Solihull & District Orchid Society
On Saturday, April 5 we held our annual show, there was a very good display of plants with a total of ninetysix entries.
There was some excellent displays by the visiting societies and Birmingham Orchid Society won the shield for best display. A potting demonstration was given by Roger Bowden.
Winners of the trophies were as follows: The Society Cup, Most Points in Show: Mike Harris; The Challenge Cup, Best Group Display: Fred & Joan Smith; The Founders Shield, Best Grown Orchid: Stan Taylor;
The Bedlam Trophy, Best Monopodial: Brian Cope; The Durant Cup, Best Cattleya: Fred & Joan Smith; The G R Harris Cup, Best Masdevallia: Brian Cope;
The Gloria Cotton Cup, Best Mini Cymbidium: Mike Harris; The S A Jarret Cup, Best Odontoglossum : Janet James; The Margaret Turton Cup, Best Phalaenopsis: Fred & Joan Smith; The Trevor Turton Cup, Best Paphiopedilum: Stan Taylor; The Dendrobium Trophy, Best Dendrodium: Margaret Dale;
The Vandeville Trophy, Best Species: Stan Taylor; The Wylde Court Cup, Best Lycaste: Mike Harris; The Shirley Goblet, Best Cymbidium: Mike Harris; The Harry Wilshaw Cup, Novice Class: Keith Wall; The Junior Cup, Best Junior: Sarah Wood; The Pete White Trophy, Best Pleurothallid: Brian Cope.
And for the most points awarded at the monthly table shows: The Bedlam Trophy for Hybrids Fred & Joan Smith; The Committee Trophy for Species: Stan Taylor.
