Alcester Civic Society
THE March meeting began with the AGM, chaired by High Bailiff Lennox Cumberbatch.
ACS chairman Lord Hertford gave his report on the year and the committee were re-elected en bloc, with the exception of David Whittington, who, after many years of service, has decided to stand down.
Bill Goodall was elected unopposed as treasurer in his place, and David was warmly thanked for all he has done in so many ways for Alcester Civic Society.
Following the AGM business, a lively talk was given by Maggie Payne about Alcester in Bloom, from its very beginnings, and through its many successes, to the present day.
The "In Bloom" team of volunteers are extremely dedicated to their task, and the superb displays only come after a great deal of planning, fundraising and sheer hard work.
Maggie explained how they have learned over the years to produce the displays and events with community involvement which find favour with the judges, and have worked hard to find something new to offer every time.
The evident community spirit in Alcester has made a great impression on the judges year after year, and Maggie is extremely proud of her team and her town.
Despite the decision this year not to enter into competition, Maggie gave her assurance that Alcester in Bloom will in every other respect carry on their wonderful work, and Alcester will be as beautiful as ever this summer, giving pleasure to townsfolk and visitors alike.
