Brownies discover the Lost Gate of Studley
8:30am Monday 22nd October 2012 in Local
BROWNIES from 2nd Studley (St Mary's) Warwickshire, put their best feet forward on October 13 to find the Lost Gate of Studley.
The marked walk crosses farm land and country lanes encompassing local land marks including Studley Castle and Studley Church.
The route is a pleasant two-and-half miles and take and takes about 90 minutes, but can be extended with a picnic stop, coffee/ bar snack at Studley Castle or a tour of the historic Saxon church.
A total of 23 Brownies prepared for the walk with map orientation skills practise, basic map reading and walking safely training.
The sun shone and although the ground was saturated, the girls had great fun testing out just how waterproof their footwear was.
The Lost Gate was found and left in its resting place for more intrepid walkers to discover.
All the Brownies achieved their Out and About badges.
A spokesman said: “Thanks go to Mike Ford, Duke of Edinburgh Award officer for Sollihull, for his input and instruction and thanks to all our volunteers.”
