PARALYMPIAN bronze medallist Jordanne Whiley teamed up with Bromford Support, a Warwickshire specialist support provider, to launch an innovative new project in Studley providing learning and training to adults with learning disabilities.

The Hub, in Studley village hall, held an official launch party to mark the opening of a unique environment for adults with learning disabilities to explore courses such as cooking, jobs skills and computing.

It will also provide drop-in style face-to-face support for local people and offer community groups a place to host their own activities.

The initiative will see a partnership between Bromford Support and WarwickshireCounty Council to manage Hubs across the county. They will also provide a replacement to the county’s previous day centre model.

It is hoped Hubs will mean customers get more tailored support, choosing their own activities and achieving qualifications rather than simply attending a day centre and taking part in set activities.

They will also provide a community focal point providing neighbourhood groups, agencies and public services, such as the neighbourhood police team, access to the local people who need their support and advice the most. Local PCSOs will even run personal safety awareness courses for those who feel at risk.

Paralympian Jordanne Whiley performed the ribbon cutting at the Studley launch, joined by a host of other VIP guests, councillors, local community groups and customers.

Line dancing group ‘Deputy Dawgs’ gave demonstrations and there were taster session of the courses the Hub will offer.

Hen Reynolds, Hub manager for Bromford Support, said: “Studley’s village hall is already thriving with a volunteer-led community cafe and library, and now the Hub will add to that buzz of activity by providing a supportive resource for local individuals who are often overlooked.”

The Hub is now open for customers and can be used between 9.30am-4.30pm Monday to Friday, when Hub advisors will be on site.
