Schools in Redditch congratulated

SCHOOLS in Redditch have been congratulated for their improvements in this year’s GCSE results.

Minister for Education David Laws recently acknowledged the performance of schools in the town with a handwritten note.

Redditch MP Karen Lumley welcomed the news and said that Government policy focusing on expanding the academy system, making schools more competitive and dynamic, was the key.

“Academy schools are improving twice as fast as other schools,” she said.

“In Redditch, Arrow Vale and Trinity are two recently converted academies who have seen some of the fastest improvement in GCSE and A-level results in the whole of the country.”

The Advertiser reported at the time how all but one Redditch school went against the national trend, which saw a fall in the proportion of GCSEs awarded an A*-C grade.

Mrs Lumley added: “Schools in the town are notably more ambitious, with many headteachers telling me they expect more sharp record rises in results next year and the year after.

“This is what our town should be striving for.

“Moving forward, I strongly believe the foundations are set to ensure Redditch schools are not only on par with other areas but actually better.”
