More than 200 people attend community event

MORE than 80 pints of Tardebigge Cider were drunk and more than 200 rare-breed sausages were eaten at a recent event.

Hundreds of people attended an Apple Day event last weekend on Headless Cross Green.

Organiser Alistair Waugh, from Headless Cross Orchard group, said that it was a great success with a massive turnout.

“We're all very happy with the day,” he said. “We showed that the community can hold fun events that are relevant, entertaining and well attended.

“We're making history, putting Headless Cross Green's events into the calendar."

The event, opened by Redditch MP karen Lumley, included a harvest share, a number of stalls selling homemade produce and entertainment from local bands and performance group the Shakespeare Mummers.

It also included an unveiling of a new interpretation board which explains the background of the community orchard.

Mr Waugh added: "These are the exactly the events that people want to have.

“The focus is on making changes for a better town - growing food, sharing lives, celebrating what we have."
