Redditch man doing run to say thanks to Redditch Diabetes Team

REDDITCH carpenter Luke Morris has signed up to run the Bupa Great Birmingham Run for Diabetes UK this Sunday, October 21.

Mr Morris, aged 29, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes three years ago.

Knowing that keeping fit would help him manage the condition Luke ran his first half marathon last year and his success has inspired his step-dad Thomas Geoghegan to sign up and run with him in Birmingham.

Mr Morris chose Diabetes UK as a way of saying thank you for the care he received from the Redditch Diabetes Team which supported him following his diagnosis.

Diabetes UK is the nominated charity partner for the Bupa Great Run Series from 2012.  Running, as well as other physical activities, can help with managing diabetes more effectively, in addition to helping reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

Through the millions of pounds raised by runners, Diabetes UK and Bupa will be holding a series of roadshows throughout the country to help tackle and prevent Type 2 diabetes, as well as identifying some of the estimated 850,000 people in the UK who have Type 2 diabetes but don’t know it.
