A NEW interactive sculpture has been unveiled in Redditch’s green-flag winning Arrow Valley Country Park.

Deputy mayor of Redditch Wanda King recently joined residents and commissioned artist Keith Ashford to unveil the piece of public art.

Designed by Mr Ashford, Redditch-born member of creative artists Sculpture Logic, it is a foundry-cast iron sculpture made in the distinctive shape of the lake.

Over time, the casting should weather from its current grey to a shade of brown.

Councillor King said: “We have a fine tradition of public arts in Redditch and I’m pleased to be able to unveil this latest piece of sculpture.

“I’d like to thank the artists, the park forum and everyone else that came and got involved in the design, and of course the council staff that organised it.

“I’m sure it will be enjoyed, handled and sat on by visitors to the park for many years to come.”

In March public artists were encouraged by Redditch Council’s leisure and cultural services to tender for a commission to produce a piece of art celebrating the park itself, and to involve the community in its design.

Established public artists had to “visit Arrow Valley Countryside Centre and respond to the site… through their own artistic practice”.
