FOLLOWING an incident when two children sustained minor injuries outside Matchborough First School, Councillor Juliet Brunner has worked with school governors, pupils and residents groups to look at improving safety outside the school.

Matchborough Road Safety Group has met to discuss measures since last October, whilst waiting to be assessed for a road crossing.

Current measures put in place include the widening of the pathway outside the school, road safety training with children, high visibility vests provided by First Bus Group, staggered barriers outside school gate and children's centre, dropped curbs, flashing speed warning signs and a shelter for parents to wait in the school grounds.

Coun Brunner said: “I do hope the measures we have taken will make a difference to families using the school.

“We are all working hard to make the journey to and from school as safe as possible, and I'd like to thank the school and local residents for their support.”
