Event to raise awareness of debilitating disease

AFTER being diagnosed with a debilitating disease a Redditch woman has vowed to do all she can to raise awareness of the condition.

Maria Tomes, 41, was recently diagnosed with Idiopathic Intercranial Hypertension (IIH), a brain condition with no known cause.

It affects between one and two people in every 100,000 and which sees any physical activity resulting in a major attack.

Along with husband Mark and 21-year-old daughter Rebecca, she has started to work with voluntary organisation IIH-UK to try and raise awareness of the illness.

To that end a special fundraising event has been planned for October, 31 at St Andrews Church in Church Hill Centre.

As well as the a usual raffle and tombola there will be a body waxing were family friends Richard Tingley and Wesley Coleman are having their legs and chest waxed.

All money raised on the day will go toward IIH-UK.
