A GROUP enthusiastic workers helped give an animal shelter a make-over.

The kind-hearted individuals, from npower’s community department in Worcester, spent the day at Wythall Animal Sanctuary in Headley Heath.

They improved the entrance area creating a brighter, cleaner first impression as well as painted sheds, cleared weeds and replanted tubs with colourful displays of flowers.

Ruth Worton, npower’s charity and volunteering delivery manager and who organised the event, invited her European visitors along to show the community aspect of the UK business.

She said the team enjoyed their experience

"We had a fantastic day working together. npower has an extensive community volunteering programme and it was a great opportunity to get our European colleagues involved.

“They were impressed by the relationships we develop with our communities through volunteering and how everyone takes part with such dedication.”

Lena McGahey, from Wythall Animal Sanctuary, said: “Volunteers are our lifeblood as we are not funded and rely totally on donations.

“We have around 300 animals at any one time and it costs around £2,000 each month to provide for them.

She added: “We are grateful to our volunteers who support the centre and give the animals here not only practical care but also regular fuss."
