SCHOOL children from across Redditch have been invited to take part in this year’s Young Citizens Challenge - aimed to encourage youngsters to think about their personal safety.
The challenge in Redditch is once again being organised by Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) and West Mercia Police.
It is supported by the Safer Roads Partnership, Redditch Borough Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team, Severn Area Rescue Association and the Red Cross, and is runf rom Tuesday, September 18 until Friday, September 21 at Redditch Fire Station.
Year six pupils from four Redditch middle schools will be participating in the event and each team will be awarded points for their behaviour and skills they demonstrate in each challenge.
The winning school will then be announced at the end of the competition.
Caroline Webster, from HWFRS, said: “We work closely with schools and other agencies to make children aware of the dangers they might face in a range of situations, and to give them guidance and the confidence needed to react in a way that will help them and anyone with them to stay safe.”
Community Support Officer Vanessa Halford added that West Mercia Police would be using the challenge to highlight internet safely and stranger danger.
She said: “Young Citizens Challenge is now a well-established annual event and extremely popular with the children taking part.
“The scenarios they face are delivered in an entertaining way but at the same time give important safety messages which we hope they will remember for a long time to come.”
