PEOPLE can sample a carnival atmosphere at a free afternoon of festivities at Redditch’s town centre bandstand this month.
The live music Bandstand Festival – starring a mix of traditional and contemporary acts including the Alcester Silver Band, DJ King Majestic, Luke Truth, Otis Irie, Rauf & Hussain Ali Shah on sitar and Ghara, the Carey Academy of Irish Dance and many more - will take place at the Church Green bandstand in Redditch town centre on Saturday, September 22 from 2-6pm.
Diverse drumming performances from all over the world on the day will include samba, bhangra and steel drum styles, and local groups set to turn out have roots not only in British culture but Chinese, Polish, Indian, Irish, Pakistani, and Caribbean.
Traditional harvest and heritage themed stalls will also be set up to accompany music and food on the day – including the Kerala Cultural Association Redditch who will be doing traditional patterns made from flowers.
Local historians will also be out in force for a link to Redditch’s past.
Redditch Council leader Bill Hartnett said: “It gives me great pleasure to invite everyone down to the Bandstand Festival on the Saturday.
“There are so many local people involved, it promises to be an exciting event for the whole community. I’m sure the acts and activities in the packed line up will give the whole area a carnival atmosphere as we celebrate the wonderful diversity of our borough.”
The Redditch Bandstand Festival is proudly presented by Redditch Council and the Palace Theatre, West Mercia Police, Worcestershire County Council, Redditch Town Centre Partnership and the Redditch Community Forum.
