A GROUP of 13 young people, including four from Redditch, have taken their first step towards a military career, after joining the Army on Thursday, September 6 at Worcester Guildhall.

The new recruits, ages 16 and 17, including Robson Baylis, Jon Monk, Reece Motherwell and Ellis Preston from Redditch, pledged allegiance to Queen and Country in front of the Right Worshipful the Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Roger Berry, as well as proud family and friends.

The group will begin their military career at the Army Foundation College (AFC) this month. By attending the AFC, young people are able to gain first class military and vocational training while earning a salary at the same time.

The Harrogate College offers a combination of training for young recruits before they move on to their chosen regiments and corps.

All of the young men have joined through the Army Careers Information Office in Worcester. Here, they have passed literacy and numeracy assessments as well as fitness, teamwork and commitment selection tests.

The Careers Office, located at 44 Foregate Street, Worcester WR1 1AN, is open Monday to Friday with a dedicated team of experienced soldiers available to give their advice and support to anyone considering a career with the Army.
