A SMALLWOOD woman has completed and passed out from Army Basic Training at ATC Pirbright.

Kendell Lee, aged 19, formerly a student at both St Augustine’s and NEW College, now joins the Corps of Army Music, and will complete her Phase 2 training as an army musician, at the Royal School of Army Music at Kneller Hall in Twickenham, before being posted to her regimental band.

Miss Lee, who plays French horn, is aiming for the Band of the Blues and Royals, part of the Household Cavalry, based in London and Windsor.

There she will have to complete an additional 18 week army equestrian course in order to carry out ceremonial duties as a mounted musician, for such events as Trooping the Colour and the state opening of Parliament.

Proud parents Scott and Edwina Lee, were joined by Ian Berry, a lecturer from the Public Armed Services course at NEW College, to watch the passing out parade, which is the first step in achieving a goal Miss Lee has been working towards since the age of 14.
