A REDDITCH mother and daughter have been sent to prison after police found them growing cannabis in their homes.

Judge Christopher Plunkett issued a warning at Worcester Crown Court that anyone producing illegal drugs would always be sent to custody.

Jeanette Turner, aged 48, of Highley Close, and Nina Rogers, 30, of Kingham Close, both in Redditch, were jailed for 20 months after pleading guilty to drug production.

Prosecutor Charles Hardy said police searched Turner's home on January 25 and found five cannabis plants and hydroponic equipment.

She said she was in debt and needed cash.

It was estimated that the cannabis could have earned her £800.

At her daughter's home, 11 cannabis cuttings were found in a bedroom cupboard and these could have raised £1,500.

Richard Hull, defending, said neither women appreciated the gravity of the offence.

They had responsibility for children and had no previous convictions.

But the judge said it was obvious they had carried out the cultivation with a commercial motive to earn money.
