FORMER Redditch mayor and long standing Conservative councillor Jack Field has sadly passed away.

Jack, who first stood as a councillor in Crabbs Cross in May 1999 and remained in office until his death, passed away yesterday Wednesday, March 10.

Jack always had a strong interest in politics and joined the Conservative Party in 1950.

He was chairman of Stockland Green Conservatives in Birmingham for 13 years.

While serving as mayor of Redditch in 2008/9 he championed the Mercian Regiment being granted Freedom of the Borough.

Parliamentary candidate Karen Lumley paid tribute to the long standing Conservative councillor.

She said: "Jack was not only an excellent ward councillor but also a good mayor for Redditch.

“He was very proud of Redditch and will be sadly missed by his colleagues and constituents alike."

Jack, who was widowed in October 1992, leaves behind his daughter Jane and a grandson Thomas.
