POLICE are appealing for information following a racially aggravated assault in Redditch at the weekend.
The incident happened at around 1.30am on Sunday, February 7 when the victim, a man of Eastern European origin, walked through the underpass between Beoley Road West to Beoley Road East (under Holloway Drive).
As he was in the underpass, he spoke to a male who was racially abusive towards him and then punched him to the floor, kicked him and stole his cigarettes and cash.
The offender is described as a white male, around 5ft 7ins tall with a medium build and short light brown hair.
He was clean shaven and wearing denim jeans and a jacket with a multi-coloured section at the front and the hood worn down. He was also smoking a cigarette at the time of the incident.
Pc Andy Herlihy from Redditch police said: “This was a racially motivated attack that left the victim with cuts and bruising to his face and body and it’s important that we identify the offender.
“If you witnessed the assault or saw a male of this description in the Beoley Road area in the early hours of Sunday morning, please pass this on to police as soon as you can.
“The offender was seen a short while after the incident walking along Sillins Avenue, talking on a mobile phone, and then heading into an alleyway situated almost opposite Sandon Close.
“Again if you saw a male of this description in the Sillins Avenue area, please give us a call.”
Anyone with information can call 0300 333 3000 (quoting incident 186-S-080210) or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
