TWO brave Redditch men took part in a gruelling challenge to raise money for two very worthy causes.
Matthew Hill, 19, and Stefan Reed, 22, who work together as stewards at the Rocklands Social Club, participated in a challenge which involved running 10kms and doing a hard physical challenge after every kilometre.
Matthew was raising money for The Stroke Association in recognition of the work the organisation did for his dad Denis after he had a stroke, and Stefan was raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Between them they raised more than £1,100.
Denis attends a Stroke Association communications support service group which meets at Tardebigge Community Hall and which has helped him regain his speech which suffered as a result of his stroke.
Stroke Association family support worker for Redditch, Bromsgrove and surrounding areas, Sandra Langford, said the association was extremely grateful for what the men had done.
“Our group which meets in Tardebigge now has about 50 members - there is a great need for it in this area so we’re always grateful when people support us in this way. Not only do we run weekly group meetings but we also offer a home visiting service, have luncheon meetings and run a conversation group.
“Denis has made such excellent progress that he is now starting to help other people in the group.”
Denis said: “I am extremely proud of Matthew and Stefan, as is everyone from our Stroke Association group. It was a hard challenge but they did brilliantly, completing it in an hour and 24 minutes.”
