IT'S a tall order to find yourself on television, but Alcester's very own Peter Crouch has done just that by starring in a World Cup advert.

Mr Crouch has been hand-picked to star in a Screwfix advert which runs across the World Cup, as part of their sponsorship of ITV's coverage.

The 'Summer of Football' campaign features some of the firm's customers who share names with England's footballing greats.

DIY-er Peter of course shares the same name as Stoke City and former England striker Crouch, and is shown in the advert knocking his head on a lightbulb to reflect the height of his 6ft 7ins namesake.

He said: “It’s fantastic to be involved in the Screwfix ads and be part of such an iconic sporting event.

"When I first got the call to ask if I would be interested in taking part I was with my wife and we both thought it was a prank.

"It’s a great idea though and I am honoured to be asked.

"It’s been so much fun – I certainly won’t forget having my fingernails dirtied especially for filming in a hurry.

"I feel like a local celebrity and my friends are really looking forward to seeing me on the small screen over the coming weeks.”

The advert aims to throw a light on the tradespeople of Britain.

Caroline Welsh, director of brand and marketing at Screwfix, said: “Football plays a huge part in a lot of our customers’ lives, and what better way to bring the beautiful game to them, than by putting them at the heart of our TV ads?

"They are the real legends to us!

"We had great fun searching and casting for this campaign and are sure it will raise a few smiles."
