ALCESTER flew the flag for the Commonwealth as part of a ceremony of dedication to mark Commonwealth Day 2018.
A host of local representatives came together to mark the event, including standard bearer Mike Clarke, RBL chair Mike Gittus, the Mayor of Alcester Yvette Morrison, Alcester county councillor Mark Cargill, Alcester Minister reverend Adrian Guthrie, and Major Bob Woodfield MBE.
Mr Gittus said: “In this difficult time it is important to remember the strength that we all receive in the commonwealth of nations.
“This is a special year and we shall remember the sacrifices that were made by the Commonwealth to preserve the freedom and integrity of our nation during the Great War.”
Town Mayor Yvette Morrison added: “Alcester likes to remind itself of its rich commonwealth
heritage.
“This is a special day where we see ourselves as part of a united body of nations working towards the cause of unity and peace.”
Commonwealth Day is held annually on the second Monday in March to celebrate the Commonwealth of Nations.
