TRIBUTES have been paid to a former councillor who has died after a period of ill health.

Former Redditch Borough Council cllr Brenda Quinney was elected in a by-election in July 2008, and represented Batchley and Brockhill ward for the Conservatives until May 2014.

She died on January 2.

During her time at the council, she served on a number of committees and was a particularly active scrutiny member.

She served on the parent Overview and Scrutiny Committee as well as Scrutiny Task Groups, working on issues including access for people with disabilities to Redditch, the Redditch market, and action to promote the image of the town.

She also served for a number of years as the council’s representative on the Worcestershire Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee (HOSC) which is hosted by Worcestershire County Council.

Leader of the Conservative group, cllr Juliet Brunner, said: “Brenda was a strong and powerful advocate for the people of Batchley and Brockhill.

“She served on many committees and was passionate about health and commerce.

“Redditch has benefited from her amazing skill set and we are so very sorry to learn of her passing.”

The flag at the Town Hall will be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect and a letter of condolence will be sent to her family on the council’s behalf.
