WASTE collections in Redditch have been postponed due to icy roads.

The household waste collection service has been put on hold as conditions are "too risky" for drivers on the road.

Anna Wardell-Hill, the council's environmental policy and awareness officer, said: "Crews are all returning to the depot as weather conditions are too risky for us to continue.

"If you are due a collection, please leave bins out in a safe place and we will endeavour to get it emptied as conditions improve."

Bulky waste collections have also been cancelled, with residents urged to keep items out in a safe place while crews are deployed to girt and clear the roads.

Ms Wardell-Hill added: "We would like to apologise for the disruption to waste collection services due to the poor weather.

"Refuse vehicles can weigh up to 26 tonnes and are much bigger than most household delivery vehicles, it is essential that we do not drive on roads when drivers make a judgement that it is not safe to do so.

"We will be assessing the situation throughout the day so look out for further updates."
