A SERIES of life-saving heart tests for young people in Redditch this weekend is fully booked.

There were only 200 places available for the scans, which aim to identify undiagnosed heart conditions.

Open to people aged 14 to 35, the tests will be carried out on December 9 and 10 at the Farraday Business Centre, Electric Avenue in Redditch.

The screening, organised by Brothers in Arms and the Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation (CCSHF), has been funded in memory of Aaron Dixon - a 23-year-old man who died from sudden adult death syndrome (SADS).

Maggie Underwood, from CCSHF, admitted she is still shocked at how quickly the places went.

"It's really great," she said.

"The message is getting out there."

"We will be doing more screening in 2018 once we have raised more funds as you can imagine this is not a cheap process, but it is vital to help save lives and this is the right start.

"Knowing about your heart condition is the first step. Even if you are found to have a condition, it doesn't mean the end of the world.

"There are a number of treatments in the form of medication, operations, and even having your very own personal internal defibrillator fitted."

She added: "Big thanks to Brother in Arms for helping us achieve this for this year."

The scans, performed by Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), is non-invasive and painless; and it takes approximately 20 minutes to perform.
