REDDITCH’S budding young stars will be able to audition for parts in the Palace Youth Theatre Group’s (PYT) summer performance of the classic Goodnight Mister Tom.

PYT will be performing the Samuel French version of this show, based on the classic book by Michelle Magorian, on July 12, 13, and 14 with rehearsals starting in January.

The group is inviting children and young people aged eight to 18 to join the youth theatre for the chance to get involved in at open auditions at Redditch’s Palace Theatre on December 19.

Auditions will run from 5pm to 6.15pm for eight to 11 year olds and 6.15pm to 8pm for 12 to 18 years.

Auditionees need to prepare a short section of any song they like, which they can do acapella or to a backing track.

The acting element of the audition will be in the style of a workshop so does not need any preparation, improvisation and script work will be done on the night.

If there is anyone that doesn’t want to sing there are non-singing parts which they can be considered for.

Redditch Borough Council’s Youth Theatre and Arts Officer Liz Tabberer said: “There are many, many opportunities for members of the Palace Youth Theatre to be involved in productions. We have great fun in the shows and they are a great privilege to be a part of, especially performing on the Palace Theatre Stage. Do you want to make new friends, build confidence and try something new – what are you waiting for? Come and get involved!”

Anyone interested in auditioning can register by emailing their name, age and parent or guardian’s email address to pyt@redditchbc.gov.uk and they will be sent an application pack.
