GENEROUS Redditch residents are being encouraged to donate at special collections at their local church as part of an annual Harvest appeal for poor farmers.

Catholic international development charity (CAFOD) is calling on residents to join their appeal to help poor farmers in communities such as in El Salvador.

Farming is the dominant profession but the land is often difficult to grow food on, with the charity aiming to help farmers' crops flourish by using native seeds and seed banks.

Last year, Redditch residents helped raise £1,426, with the charity calling on further support this year.

CAFOD’s representative for Redditch, Julia Hood, said: "Harvest is a time of abundance of both crops and of life in the community.

"This event shows the abundance of compassion in Redditch. Its kindness will help communities in El Salvador and around the world."
