BRAVE breast cancer patients will strut their stuff in a fashion show to raise vital funds for the breast cancer unit at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

The event, which takes place at Barnt Green Cricket Club on Sunday, September 24, from 4pm until 7pm, aims to raise around £2,000 for a new MRI scanner at the hospital.

The show also acts as a confidence booster for the 24 male and female models taking part, who are all currently undergoing or who have undergone breast cancer treatment.

Michelle Doidge of organisers Bosom Friends, a breast cancer support group for people in Bromsgrove, Redditch and Kidderminster, said: “This year we are raising funds for vital breast cancer screening services at the hospital for women in the area.

“The Alex has so much bad publicity but I have been through breast cancer myself and cannot fault them – all of the team are absolutely fabulous.”

This years’ show, which is the ninth time it has been held, is inspired by a wedding party theme, with models wearing dresses loaned by Rachel Mellor from the “Continental Collection” shop in Barnt Green.

Around 300 guests are expected, with BBC television presenter Joanne Malin hosting proceedings.

Bosom Friends is run by the breast cancer nurses at the Alexandra Hospital and they meet on the third Tuesday of each month, alternating at the education room at the Alexandra Hospital, Primrose Hospice, and Bromsgrove Hotel.
