AN additional £1.3 billion for schools funding over two years has been welcomed by town MP Rachel Maclean, saying the move will help to create more quality school places in Redditch.

Education Secretary Justine Greening announced earlier this week the boost to the core schools budget in the House of Commons.

It will deliver the biggest improvement to the school funding system for well over a decade.

This additional funding to the fairer schools funding will mean an increase in the basic amount that every pupil will get, protected funding for those with high needs, and ensure every local authority is in a position to give schools a cash increase through the new formula.

The hope is that by working with teachers and schools across the country, the Government can continue to raise standards and give every child the best possible education.

Mrs Maclean said: “We are committed to ending the postcode lottery of school funding, which has seen Worcestershire at the bottom of the pile for so long – so all children receive the education they deserve, wherever they live.

“I sought and received assurances in Parliament on Monday from Secretary of State for Education that the funding formula will also apply to our three-tier schools in Redditch.

“The announcement sends a clear message that we are committed to raising standards and giving every child the best possible education and the best possible opportunities for their future.”
