A BEAVER colony in Redditch is in danger of closing if a new permanent leader can’t be found.

A change in shift patterns has forced the group's current leader to have to say goodbye.

The 10-strong group, from the 1st Redditch Scout Group based at Harris Close, Greenlands, will be without a leader from September unless an enthusiastic replacement is found.

The group currently meet every Tuesday evening from 5pm to 6pm, but will consider a change to that routine in an effort to recruit the right person.

Group chairman Alan Brinkworth said an enthusiasm to work with the young people, aged from 5¾ to 8 years old, was the only qualification needed.

“No previous experience is required in this valuable voluntary role, and the Scouting side of things can be taught to whoever takes on the role, while full initial training in first aid and child safeguarding will also be given,” he said.

“We are managing to make do at the moment, but a new permanent leader is desperately needed, and two would be fantastic. We would love to hear from anyone who would like to join our team and work with the youngsters in what is a very rewarding environment.

“We are about to approach the parents to see if any of them would be prepared to help, even on a part-time rota basis, but what we really need is the consistency of a full-time leader.”

Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts can be boys or girls and enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others.

They meet together once a week in a colony.
