RESIDENTS are being invited to watch one of Shakespeare’s best known plays performed as it would have been; in the open air, in full Elizabethan costume, with an all-male cast.

The Comedy or Errors, a magical and comically entwined tale of mistaken identity, is being performed in Coughton Court's gardens.

It will be performed by theatre company The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, which have for the past decade brought their own special brand of authentic, exhilarating and engaging all-male productions to stages around the country.

The comedy follows two pairs of identical twins, Antipholus of Syracuse and Antipholus of Ephesus, and their servants, both names Dromio.

When they were babies, the twins and their parents were separated in a shipwreck; now, years later, as one half of the twins search for the other they unwittingly find themselves in the same city on the same day.

Peter Stickney, artistic director, said: "I can’t think of anything more perfect for a summer’s evening than a classical retelling of this great play set against the background of one of the nation’s most beautiful outdoor venues."

The show is on Friday, July 21.
