CUBS from three packs in Redditch recently took their Backwoods Cooking Badge at Scouting’s Redditch Conservation and Activity Centre.
In order to achieve their badge, participants aged from eight to 10 years old, have to demonstrate how to light a fire, be able to cook using a billy can, cook something in the embers of a fire, cook something on a stick and show how to make the fire safe when finished with.
The day, at Nash’s Acre to the rear of Astwood Bank Scouts HQ, was organised by one of the leaders, Anne Griffin.
She said: “All the children enjoyed themselves, it was a really worthwhile outdoor activity for all, plus the weather was kind to us, which was a bonus.”
