EIGHT children’s centres across Stratford could close in an attempt to help save Warwickshire County Council a whopping £67m by 2020.

The children's centres in Stratford district face being axed and replaced by a single ‘family hub’ based in Alcester.

The controversial proposal, estimated to save £1.12million, was triggered last week at a meeting of Warwickshire County Council’s cabinet.

The county council currently has 39 children's centres, which would be replaced by 12 family hubs.

Eight of those centres are in the Stratford district and would be replaced by just one family hub in Alcester.

The county council said the move is not about stopping services but transforming and changing the way it does things and that the hubs would benefit families by bringing all services under one roof.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that, as a result, many jobs could be at risk across the county.

A consultation begins on Monday, June 26 for 11 weeks.

People are being urged to have their say and can submit their views via warwickshire.gov.uk/ask or by emailing childrenscentresreview@warwickshire.gov.uk.

A final decision is expected to be made in October.
