RESIDENTS were able to step back in time on Saturday as part of a Victorian heritage day at the Redi Centre.

The special event, with Redditch Youth and Community Enterprise (RYCE), saw people dressed in period costumes and Victorian themed activities taking place throughout the day.

There was even a mock Victorian school which proved very popular if people were misbehaving.

Redditch mayor Joe Baker, who found himself in school's bad books, admitted: "I am still the naughty school boy, I was always getting others into trouble."

He said it was a fun packed day.

"It was a great day, firstly being picked up by horse and carriage, and then seeing all the different events that the organisers had put on, from the Redditch Community Gospel Choir to a reenactment of a Victorian school," he said.

"RYCE is a great facility for all our young people here in Redditch and this was shown with all the activities that are offered here. I often get told that there is nothing to do for our young people, RYCE is just one of the many gems we have in Redditch."
