AN Alvechurch pub has re-opened following a £210,000 revamp which saw the creation of nine new jobs.

The Red Lion, on Red Lion Street, closed for nine days for a major overhaul to its bar and dining area and has doubled the front of house team to 18 members.

It re-opened at the start of this month.

Rebecca Spence, general manager at the pub for over two years and who lives above it with her young family, said she is thrilled with the revamp.

“It has always been so important to share the home-from-home feeling with all our guests, and we really feel that with this refurbishment we can re-establish ourselves as the social hub of the local community," she said.

"But that isn’t to say we aren’t looking further afield, with our friendly staff and ambitious chefs, we hope to appeal to all foodies from near and far alike.

Guests were recently invited to a VIP evening to reveal the new-look pub.

Rebecca said both new guests as well as locals enjoyed it and were impressed with the results.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick-start our new look than with the VIP party," she said.

“We’re now looking to the future, and we’d encourage anyone who hasn’t seen the new design to pop along and share our new beginning with us. With the new menu now in place and the facilities to accommodate small or large group bookings – we’re confident that we can wow our guests.”

Originally occupied by a row of old cottages, the site on which The Red Lion stands dates back to the 1700s.

Before the existence of the police force, the building was used as meeting place for landowners to discuss the activities of thieves and trespassers.
