PUPILS at a Redditch school will be taking part in an exciting event raising vital cash for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Youngsters at Astwood Bank First school have begun an exciting project about bears which will see them decorate their very own.

The bear will then be sent to Birmingham to take part in The Big Sleuth, which is raising cash for the children’s hospital.

A spokesman from the school said: "For anyone that saw Birmingham’s Big Hoot (2015) or Big Read (2016) you will be familiar with the format. 2017 is The Big Sleuth. The title links to the idea of being detectives and, interestingly, the collective noun is actually a sleuth of bears."

Pupils recently had a grand unveiling of their as yet un-decorated bear which included a visit from a somewhat bear-wildered Mayor of Redditch councillor Joe Baker.

The school, which will send their bear off at the end of May, is also raising cash for the hospital by holding non-uniform days.
