REDDITCH councillors are urging the Highways Department to take action over a hazardous road junction before someone is killed.

A number of residents have complained to councillors about having difficulty leaving Batchley Road and turning right on to Hewell Road.

Councillor Gareth Prosser, together with councillor Brandon Clayton, said they plan to present a petition to the Highways Department and demand action be taken.

Cllr Prosser said over the years there have been a number of near misses between vehicles coming together, causing a number of problems for residents.

"Something has to be done to change this junction before there is a fatality here," he said.

"These two main roads converge here, as well as been on a bus route to and from Batchley. And now with Redditch Borough Council agreeing to more houses to be built in Brockhill, this junction will become a bigger hazard with more traffic on the road."

Councillor Brandon Clayton added: "We need to improve the traffic flow by the introduction of a mini-traffic island which would improve the existing road junction considerably.

"The only way we can get the county Highways Department to look at this junction and the surrounding area is by a petition from the residents of Batchley and Brockhill.

For more on the petition the councillors will be going door to door in the area, or people can call 07825 604072.
