YOUNGSTERS at a Redditch school recently took part is a special event to encourage art activity in schools.
Every single pupil from Birchensale Middle School spent an afternoon creating a piece of monochrome drawing on A4 paper based on the work of Graphic Artist M.C. Escher.
Each year group used a different media such as charcoal, ballpoint pen, felt tip, graphite pencil, fine liner and oil pastel.
When the work was complete it was mounted in the correct sequence and now emulates the huge piece 'Metamorphosis' by Escher.
Elaine Bowles, from the school, said: "Pupils have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of working this way.
"They drew from a small rectangle and had to enlarge it to fit an A4 page. This involved numeracy skills- something Escher was renowned for utilising throughout his career: he was a mathematical artist and genius.
"When the work came together as a huge 20 metre display everyone was very excited to see how their work fitted alongside their friends' and to find their drawing among the other 483."
