THE Palace Youth Theatre (PYT) will be opening their doors to new members next week as they run their first ever 'PYTry' sessions.

PYTry will run on Tuesday, January 24 and aims to provide the opportunity for interested youngsters to try out Youth Theatre for free with no obligation to sign up.

There will be three slots for prospective members. A session youngsters aged five to eight years will run from 4-5pm, eight to 12 years 6-6.30pm and 12 to 16 will be 8-9.30pm.

Unlike previous open evenings unfortunately parents will be unable to stay during these sessions for safeguarding purposes.

Youth theatre sessions for young people, which are run in groups according to the above age and requirements, take place every Tuesday during school term time.

Lizzi Tabberer, youth theatre and arts officer, said: "The future of local theatre belongs to our children and young people and we are very passionate about encouraging more people to get involved. The theatre is a great way to develop new skills, self-esteem and boost confidence from an early age, so sign up today to take part in a free session and see what fun we get up to at PYT."

The sessions will include performance techniques, improvisation, sets and costumes, script work, movement pieces and vocal performance. PYT’s next show is Beauty and the Beast on July 13 to 15.

Previously, PYT have put on shows and workshops including, His Dark Materials, The Jungle Book, The Wizard of Oz, Alloy Jungle in conjunction with CircusMASH, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Odyssey 2.

New members can enrol on the night at the theatre’s box office.
