MORE than 100 Redditch residents met with town MP Karen Lumley and Worcestershire County Councillor Marcus Hart to discuss fears over a revised road junction in Wire Hill, as part of a new housing development.

Redditch Borough Council approved plans for the construction of 131 new houses off Nine Days Lane at their planning meeting in October, but as part of the plans it is proposing changing the priority for traffic at a new junction off Nine Day Lane.

The controversial revised junction will serve traffic onto the new housing estate, but is situated at the bottom of a steep road leading to the existing Wire Hill estate and residents fear the proposal could be dangerous, especially in the winter months with ice on the road as they may be unable to stop quickly enough at the new T-junction.

Many Wire Hill residents wrote to the MP on the subject and as a result she arranged to meet with Cllr Hart, cabinet member with responsibility for highways, on Saturday, January 7.

Mrs Lumley said: "It was great to see so many residents turn up to the meeting, and I am grateful to Marcus for coming to Redditch too."

"Marcus has agreed to talk to the Highways Authority regarding residents’ concerns, and I will report back to everyone once this has all taken place.

Cllr Hart added: "We will continue to work to address concerns and ensure the best outcome for local residents, in conjunction with the local members."

Mrs Lumley added that she would be meeting with property developers Barratt David Wilson Homes on Friday (January 13) to discuss residents' issues.
