REDDITCH residents are being urged to take part in an initiative aimed at spreading some festive cheer to lonely people at Christmas.

The Special Christmas Cards scheme encourages people and children to post festive greetings that can be delivered to elderly residents who live alone, in residential homes and charities until Sunday, December 18.

Kind-hearted organiser, Marissa Robinson, from Kidderminster, hopes to collect more than 1,000 Christmas cards to beat the success of last year’s initiative.

A special post box is located at Orchard Clothing, Unit 6-8 Dunlop Road, Hunt End Trading Estate, Redditch.

Marissa launched the initiative in 2015 as she wanted her child to send Christmas cards to an elderly care home for residents who might not even get a visit.

She said: "It was just one of those crazy ideas. I just thought some elderly people don’t get visitors or cards at Christmas.

"It’s all about spreading a bit of Christmas cheer."
