A WOMAN was left covered in blood from a cut lip after a man she accused of “harassing” her hit her with a glass in a Redditch nightclub, a court heard.

Jordan Edwards, aged 23, of Coltishall Close in Castle Vale, Birmingham, admitted wounding Jessica Potter at Fever nightclub on February 13.

He claimed he had meant to just throw a drink over her and had not thought it was in a glass.

Edwards was given an 18-month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work in the community and pay Miss Potter £500.

He was also ordered to take part in a “Resolve” programme, aimed at tackling violent behaviour, for 26 days and to do up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity.

Michael Aspinall, prosecuting, told Worcester Crown Court that Miss Potter felt Edwards had been “harassing” her during the evening and at 4am, just before the club closed, she was sat at a table and they began arguing.

He reached forward to try to grab one of the drinks at the table but she grabbed it before him and threw the contents over him.

Mr Aspinall added that Edwards then threw the other drink at her, she heard a “crack” as it hit her and the defendant left.

She was covered in blood and needed local anaesthetic as she was given 12 stitches to a deep cut, which lacerated a muscle in her lip.

She had also suffered a chipped tooth.

Edwards later told police he had thought the drink was in a cup because he did not believe glass containers were allowed in the club.

He said he had thrown it as “a tit for tat”.

Niall Skinner, defending, said Edwards, who had a five-month-old child and was a carer for his mother, was sorry for the injury caused.

Judge Nicholas Cole told Edwards that, as a result of the incident, Miss Potter felt self-conscious about the small scar left on her face.

The judge added: “This was a nasty incident by a man who could and should have simply walked away.”

“This offence arose out of a reckless motion of the glass towards the face, with the intention of tipping the contents over her.”
