SCHOOLCHILDREN and the Royal British Legion will lay wreaths to remember those who died in the First World War - on the 100th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme.
Around 50 young servicemen from the Redditch area died during the battle, which lasted 141 days, finishing on November 18 1916.
The memorial event - open to anyone who wishes to attend - will take place at the war memorial in Plymouth Road, Redditch, at 12 noon on Friday (July 1).
