LEAVE campaigner and town MP Karen Lumley has spoken of her "delight" as Redditch backs Brexit.

Some 28,579 of the 45,912 who cast their vote on Thursday (June 23) in the borough chose to leave the EU.

Mrs Lumley said: "I am absolutely delighted. For us, tonight has been amazing."

Remain campaigner Redditch Mayor Joe Baker said: "For those of us who lead the remain campaign it is very disappointing, but it was expected.

If nationally we decide to remain we will be ecstatic, but whatever happens we will need to build bridges.

"We have got to respect the result in Redditch," he added.

The voter turnout in Redditch was 75.2 per cent of those 37,289 went to the polling stations and 8,624 did it by post.

17,303 people voted to remain and 30 ballots were spoilt.
