SPENDING time with friends makes people in the West Midlands smile the most, new research has revealed.

Figures published by Wrigley's Extra show 69 per cent of people in the region say seeing their friends brings a smile to their faces.

A further 37 per cent said listening to music makes them smile, followed by falling in love with 31 per cent.

The research was commissioned by Wrigley's to mark its partnership with leading charity Action for Children and the launch of oral health workshops.

Brigitte Gater, director of children’s services in the West Midlands said: "Too many children continue to be badly affected by poor oral health – but being able to smile with confidence is important for a child’s self-esteem and lifelong physical health.

"Our fun and informative workshops will aim to provide the opportunity for children and families to develop a better understanding of the importance of oral health and the practical tools they need to maintain it."

The survey also showed the majority of people agreed they were least likely to smile first thing on a Monday morning, while it pinpointed 7.36pm on a Saturday night as the smile highlight of the week.

The happiest time on an average day during the rest of the week is 6.06pm – potentially because it is the end of the working day.
