THOUSANDS of people are gathered in Redditch Town Centre for the 2016 Redditch Tour Series.

World class cyclists are set to race in the men and women's Pearl Izumi Tour Series which will begin at 7.30pm today (Thursday, May 26).

Last year nine of the best British professional teams competed, including the Sir Bradley Wiggins' development team.

Now in its fifth year, the races will take place on the same 1.4-kilometre circuit based around the Church Green West finish area, including the climb of Unicorn Hill on every lap.

Each of the elite races will tackle multiple laps of the spectator friendly town centre circuit, providing a chance for fans to get close to the action.

Last year the event, televised by ITV, attracted more than 12,500 spectators.

It is estimated that it brought in around £120,000 to the local economy.

Highlights of the event will be shown on ITV4 on Saturday, May 28 and available via catch-up services with the ITV Player.
