BIRMINGHAM music legend Terrence ‘Astro’ Wilson from reggae pop band UB40 recently paid a visit to the Redditch District Scouts.

Astro, one of the founding members of band back in 1978, presented the Chief Scouts Gold Awards - the highest award a Scouts can attain- to top achievers Blake Stuart-Stephens and Desean Cohen at 1st Redditch Scouts’ annual general meeting.

Astro, who was scout in Birmingham in the 60s, was also awarded his entertainer, musician, and world global badges ones he had not receive when he was a scout.

The 58-year-old has been a friend of Cindy Bartle-Wilkerson, 1st Redditch scout leader at the Greenlands troop, since their youth.

The singer made time to come and present the awards before taking off on his US tour with UB40.

The evening also included presentations of badges to scouts, a sing-song of popular camp fire songs as well as seeing the enrolment of two new adult scouters.
