POLICE are appealing for information after a teenager punched a fan at a match in Valley Stadium, Redditch.

Redditch United played Leamington FC at the stadium in Bromsgrove Road in the Southern League Premier play-off semi final on Wednesday, April 27.

The game went to penalties and after Leamington won, a small minority of fans invaded the pitch.

A Redditch teenager is then believed to have entered the playing field and attacked the Lemington fan, punching him in the face and pushing him to the ground.

Officers are urging the victim,who left the field while police were dealing with this incident, to come forward.

The offender was voluntarily interviewed and is currently assisting police with their enquires.

During the game there were reports of some minor problems between Redditch and Leamington fans near to the Cedar Road stand resulting in security staff being employed in this area.

After the match approximately 30 fans of each side were in the roadway between the ground and Bromsgrove Road goading each other, resulting in 15 police officers being deployed to the area to prevent any potential problems.

A police spokesman said "It is clear that a small minority of spectators were intent on causing disorder on the night and due to the good planning of both clubs this has been well managed.

"The police have acted and intervened when needed and it is sad that the minority have spoilt the enjoyment for the majority of fans watching a fantastic game of football.

"The police will be reviewing CCTV and will work with both clubs to ensure we deal with any criminal offences that have occurred during the night.

"We would appeal to anyone who has any video footage or witnessed any incidents during the game to contact the police."
