POLICE called to a disturbance in Kempsey Close in Redditch, found a man leaving the flat with a pink-coloured stun gun, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Joshua McKelvie threw it away into a bush and when it was recovered a small bag of cannabis was also found, said William Douglas-Jones, prosecuting.

McKelvie pleaded guilty to possessing the gas gun and the drug.

He also admitted breach of a suspended jail sentence imposed for causing actual bodily harm.

McKelvie, aged 26, of Longdon Close, Redditch, had his sentence deferred until July 15 so that he can take an alcohol treatment course.

Judge Nicolas Cartwright said he was taking this decision after hearing that McKelvie drank up to 12 cans of lager each day.

He was putting McKelvie on trust to complete the course.

Julia Powell, mitigating, disclosed defendant's drinking habit.

He was frightened because he had heard rumours that he was going to be assaulted.

He had been stabbed on a previous occasion.
