A TOUGH six day driving challenge for two fundraisers has raised an impressive amount for the Primrose Hospice.

Nicholas Irish, 19, and Stefan Jones, 20, formed a team called Betty's Boys to take part in a Screwball Rally that began on September 23.

The team travelled a 2,080 mile journey across seven countries, in just six days, and managed to raise £1,463 for the hospice - the St Godwald's Road-based charity supporting people facing an end of life situation and their families during this difficult time.

The journey took them through France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Lichtenstein and Italy.

One of the highlights of their adventure saw the Rover Metro take on the St Bernadino pass, up the Swiss Alps.

It was even more remarkable as the journey was completed in a 1992 Rover Metro, that had not even left Worcestershire before the rally.

The customised Metro was the smallest car to participate, and became one of the most popular as at the beginning, no one on the rally thought they would get round.

Nick said: “We did it.

"We're home - best week of my life, and we've raised a ton of cash for charity. Huge thank you to everyone involved.”

Helen Crook, from Primrose said: "We would like to thank the boys for all their hard work fundraising, and a massive congratulations on completing such an epic challenge."
