REDDITCH and Alcester residents came out in force to support The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, Macmillan’s fundraising event for people facing cancer.

A number of events took place last week and over the weekend including a coffee morning with a difference at The Duck Inn in Oakenshaw.

There was a great turn out with people enjoying stalls, face painting, balloon modelling, games, cakes and a raffle.

Organiser Emma Hill said: "We had the pleasure of our town mayor Pattie Hill attending, who drew the raffle and enjoyed the festivities on offer.

"It was a lot of work for me alone, to organise such a big event, but it was well worth it. We raised £600 and I'm still being given donations.

She added: "I would like to personally thank Ashley and Louise Gargan, landlords of The Duck Inn for their support and kind use of their pub, also a big thank you to our mayor, all the donations and of course our community."

In Alcester a tennis tournament was held at Alcester Tennis Club involving two teams ‘Mac’ versus ‘Millan’ battling it out on court.

Mac were the eventual winners by 78 to 58 points (that’s 136 games of tennis played in one morning).

£200 was raised on the day, which also included coffee and cakes and a raffle.

All donations will go toward helping fund Macmillan’s vital services ranging from specialist nurses to grants and advice for people who have money problems because of their illness.

Last year the charity raised £25 million and this year is hoping to raise even more.
